E-bulletin May 2024

Welcome to the latest edition of our e-bulletin. In this edition:

Welcome

Welcome to our May e-bulletin! This is our first e-bulletin since Mental Health Together transferred into the Derby & Derbyshire Integrated Care Board (DDICB). We hope you will notice little change as that has been our intention. Our members have told us in the past that they like the format and content of our e-bulletins so we wanted to honour that feedback.

Our website is now up and running! Please take a look www.mentalhealthtogether.co.uk

We are really pleased to launch our second Good Practice Guide. This time we have focused on Co-designing with voices of lived experience (see article below).

In the meantime, we hope you enjoy the latest news we have gathered for you. We have an Expert by Experience feature as usual to show the difference it makes involving voices of lived experience. It can make THE difference!

MHT's Co-design Good Practice Guide

The newly released guide, titled ‘Co-designing services with voices of lived experience' is downloadable from our website.

Following on from the first guide: Involving the voice of lived experience in meetings, which encourages professionals to create the right environments for sharing lived experience and minimising barriers. Our second guide is designed to encourage professionals to adopt a co-design approach with Experts by Experience and service users, who have the best understanding of the services and what does and doesn’t work for them.

The newly launched Co-design Guide is intended to support professionals from all disciplines to have a go at co-designing solutions and services with those who use them. We hope it is reassuring and inspiring, initial comments have been very encouraging!

"A really helpful and down to earth guide that feels entirely appliable and reassuring."  Social Care Commissioning Manager

"I love this. I will find it really useful as a guide, but also as a reminder to think about co-design in everything I do."  Consultant Nurse, Crisis Resolution Home Treatment team

Living Well / Derby Wellbeing

The modernising of Community Mental Health services for adults and older adults has now launched in all eight localities of Derbyshire.

For people supported by Community Mental Health Teams (CMHT), accessing services will remain the same. With the addition of the Living Well and Derby Wellbeing short-term (12 week) offer for people who seek support but do not meet the threshold for CMHT and previously fell through 'gaps' in the system.

With a person-centred approach, multi-agency Living Well teams enable a holistic approach encompassing people's full needs and providing support in different aspects of life such like housing, physical health or loneliness support.

Referrals can be made via GPs only at the time of release of this e-bulletin.

Find out more information on the Living Well Derbyshire website.

In May, Richard who is supported by Derby Wellbeing shared his experiences on BBC Radio Derby. Read more on the Trust's website.

If you, or somebody else is in crisis, you can ring the Derbyshire Mental Health Helpline and Support Service anytime 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for free on 0800 028 0077.

Nina and Julie's work with Derbyshire Healthcare

“Hi, I’m Nina, a current service-user and Expert by Experience. Niki is one of the people from Mental Health Together who helped me get into various roles in mental health work as an Expert by Experience. The latest work is ongoing and giving a voice to the many people I’ve known over the years as service-users, as well as my own voice - some of the voices are no longer with us so I do it for them too.

The work that Julie (Nurse Clinician) and I are doing is creating teaching material about risk within mental health services. I’ve given a lot of input into the teaching and on Monday of last week we did the ‘live’ recording and filming of one of the modules. I have steadily built up self-confidence by pushing the boat out, bit by bit, with what I can and cannot manage. I was very nervous and anxious about doing the ‘live’ filming/recording and was almost sure I’d mess it up. But it went really well. We are doing a training course that is going to be compulsory training for all registered clinicians in Derbyshire Healthcare. I really wanted to do a good job. I was scared, but I did it!  The message that I want to get across is if you don’t feel ‘ready’ yet or ‘well enough’ to do things like this or things that seem too far out of reach in your own life, try it as it can help our recovery journey. It also benefits the wider community of people experiencing poor mental health. So go with it, take those opportunities - you’ll surprise yourself!” Nina, Expert by Experience

"Working with Nina and collaborating at all levels of the training, content production and delivery has enriched the training at every stage. Hearing Nina's views and experiences and building them into the content means that the learning is meaningful, trauma informed and helps challenge clinicians views within a positive framework. Nina has been utterly amazing, her input has been invaluable!" Julie Sheldon, Nurse Clinician
